Meet your 2015-2016 UK ALA Student Chapter Officers!

Hi everyone,

Now that we’re getting into the swing of the semester, I thought it might be a good time to introduce your UK ALA Student Chapter officers for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Lori Miller, President

TwitterAvatarLori Miller, a second-year SIS student, grew up in Missouri but now calls Lexington home (with stops in four other states and the United Kingdom in between). She currently works as a Corporate and Foundation Prospect Researcher in UK’s Office of Development. Her professional interests include academic libraries, philanthropy and higher education, library consortia, and models of LIS education. When she’s not working or doing coursework, you can probably find her carrying out cat servant duties or watching baseball.

Teresa McGinley, Vice-President/Social Media Officer

IMG_1946I am a second year SLIS student on the health sciences track. I hail from Nederland, CO (home of the Frozen Dead Guy Days festival), but currently live in Lexington with my husband, a PhD student, our 3 year-old son, a dog, and an unruly fern. My library-related interests are open access, scholarly communication, instruction, reference, and data management. I currently work as a reference intern at the Medical Center Library at UK and a part-time instructor for the College of Communication & Information. My other interests include video games, reading (fantasy/sci-fi), and pretending to be a taco truck with my son.

Matthew Noe, Secretary/Treasurer:

rems_presentations_081215_031Hello all! I am currently a 2nd year MLIS student at UK, working as a Part-Time Instructor and as a Student Archive Assistant with UK Special Collections. I am taking coursework all over the library world, but am primarily focusing on preparing for work in health librarianship, literacy, and building skills for research. Upon graduation, I am considering either pursuing a PhD or trying to land a position in a library that will allow me to work in building collections in Graphic Medicine – a field where comics are used to convey medical information in a narrative form. In my non-library time, I am an avid reader of comics and a wide array of fiction (sci-fi and fantasy) and non-fiction (philosophy and social issues), the caretaker for two obnoxious dogs (Luna and Belle), and do my best to remain a child by watching old cartoons, Disney movies, and even the horribly-awesome soap opera that is professional wrestling.

Rachel Lebo, Distance Learning Representative

20150505_000756I will be graduating in December with my MLIS with an emphasis in health sciences.  I live with my husband, my daughter (2 years old), and our two cats in South Dakota.  I play bassoon in a woodwind ensemble. My favorite teams are: DC United (MLS), Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) Packers (NFL), Detroit Tigers (MLB), Iowa State Cyclones, and (of course) UKY Wildcats!

Stay tuned for more exciting information from your Student ALA Chapter!
