Meet the ALA Officers for the 2014-2015 school year.
Melinda Borie is the current President of the ALA Student Chapter. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, she graduated from Transylvania University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Biology. When she isn’t working at the Agricultural Information Center on campus, she enjoys brisk walks and reviewing books and movies.
Brittany Netherton is the current Vice President of the ALA Student Chapter. She is a second year SLIS student from Tompkinsville, KY. She is a Graduate Assistant in Reference Services at William T. Young Library and a Content Management Specialist for the U.S. Department of Commerce. Her interests include public service, digitization, and library history. When she’s not in the library, you’ll likely find her outside with either a book or sweet tea in hand.
Tyler Nix is the current Secretary of the ALA Student Chapter. He works as a research assistant for the UK School of Library and Information Science and also works with the digital repository at Frontier Nursing University in Lexington. His academic interests include digital repositories and health science libraries. Tyler moved to Lexington last summer from Fayetteville, Arkansas, and is into running, music and travel.
Lauren Robinson is the current Treasurer of the ALA Student Chapter. She is a second year SLIS student who graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s of Health Science in 2012. Last summer, Lauren started working at UK Libraries’ Agricultural Information Center (AIC) as the Marketing and Extension Graduate Intern. She works primarily with the Agriculture Librarian, providing reference assistance and library instruction to UK’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environment’s students, faculty, and staff as well as to their extension personnel located throughout Kentucky. For the upcoming school year, Lauren will continue working as a Graduate Assistant at the AIC. Lauren’s professional interests include library instruction, library marketing, health librarianship, and data analysis and curation. Lauren enjoys drawing and painting. During her most recent Alaskan fishing expedition, Lauren allowed a local bear to consume her fresh catch as it still wriggled on the line.
Carly Budzynski is the current Social Media Engineer for the ALA Student Chapter. She is a second year SLIS student, and has a bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in History and Library Science. Carly is the current graduate assistant in the Cataloging and Database Integrity unit of William T. Young Library, as well as the Library Science Graduate Intern for the Council of State Governments in Lexington. She is also the current social media engineer for LISSO. She was the graduate assistant last year for the Engineering and Science Libraries on the UK Campus. Her professional interests include Cataloging, Digital Libraries, and Collection Management. Carly is originally from Mukwonago, Wisconsin. She enjoys mystery novels, UK Basketball, the Green Bay Packers, and a nice chai latte.
Whitney Waddell is the current Distance Student Representative for the ALA Student Chapter. She is starting her second year in the library and information science program at the University of Kentucky. In her spare time she reviews books for her book blog and blogs about library school. She is looking forward to graduating in May 2015 and pursuing a fulfilling career in librarianship.
